RENEWABLE ENERGY IN TOGO: EGENT TOGO FOCUSES ON INFORMATION AND INNOVATION TO ACCELERATE CHANGE

As Togo aims to increase the share of renewable energy in its energy mix by 2030, EGENT TOGO, a company specialising in solar energy, is establishing itself as a key player committed to raising public awareness and ensuring access to clean energy in Togo.
Through a training workshop organised on 30 July 2026 in Lomé in partnership with the Togolese Association of Journalists Committed to the Environment (ATJ2E), the company has chosen to make the media a conduit for the energy transition.
For Komla Awuté, Managing Director of EGENT TOGO, the primary challenge remains the lack of information. “Africa has immense solar potential, but our populations still do not know enough about the opportunities offered by renewable energy” he explains. In his view, informing journalists means reaching thousands of citizens who, in turn, can adopt new energy habits.
Komla Awuté believes that every household can play an active role in achieving energy self-sufficiency. Thanks to solar panels, families can generate their own electricity, reduce their reliance on the conventional grid, minimise the impact of power cuts and protect their electrical appliances from voltage fluctuations.
The Managing Director of EGENT TOGO also points out that the country has already taken a significant step forward with the Blitta solar power station, which is currently being expanded. Komla Awouté believes this momentum must continue through the construction of new infrastructure to meet ever-increasing energy demand, driven by population growth, industrialisation and the development of small and medium-sized enterprises.
In light of these developments, Komla Awuté believes that renewable energy represents an essential solution for reducing the country’s dependence on electricity imports. His ambition is to see these energy sources make a significant contribution to increasing national production and securing the energy supply.
Beyond large-scale projects, EGENT TOGO is already taking action on the ground. The company is equipping SMEs, health centres and numerous households with tailored solar solutions. “We want every Togolese person to have access to reliable, eco-friendly and sustainable electricity” says Komla Awuté, who is convinced that the energy transition can only succeed with the involvement of the media, institutions and citizens.
In short, through this strategy combining innovation, awareness-raising and support for local communities, EGENT TOGO is committed to actively contributing to the achievement of Togo’s energy objectives and to the sustainable improvement of communities’ living conditions.
