WSF 2026: WEST AFRICAN CARAVAN PARTICIPANTS PREPARE TO LEAVE TOGO FOR BENIN
Togo has become the starting point of the West African Mobilization Caravan ahead of the World Social Forum (WSF) 2026, which will take place in Benin from 4 to 8 August 2026.
More than 400 participants from 15 West African countries have gathered in Togo for this important regional stage, marked by the official launch of the caravan at the 500-seat Amphitheatre of the University of Lomé’s North Campus.
The opening ceremony brought together caravan participants, national coordinators, and numerous stakeholders committed to defending people’s rights and protecting natural resources.
The caravan aims to raise awareness and mobilize citizens around critical issues related to the protection of water, land, and the commons across West Africa. It provides a platform for dialogue, solidarity, and collective action in support of environmental justice and sustainable development.
On the sidelines of the launch, a press conference was held at the University of Lomé to present the objectives of this regional initiative and outline the key priorities of the World Social Forum 2026.
The official departure of the delegation is scheduled for 1 August. Before crossing into Benin, participants will make a stop in Agbodrafo, where they will engage in awareness-raising activities and discussions with local communities, followed by a visit to the House of Slaves, an important historical site that bears witness to the transatlantic slave trade.
The caravan will then continue its journey to Benin, the host country of WSF 2026, where thousands of civil society organizations, grassroots movements, youth leaders, and activists from around the world are expected to gather to promote social justice, environmental sustainability, and international solidarity.
