ENERGY TRANSITION: ATJ2E CALLS ON JOURNALISTS TO RAISE THE PROFILE OF RENEWABLE ENERGY

In response to the lack of media coverage of issues relating to renewable energy, the Togolese Association of Journalists Committed to the Environment (ATJ2E) organised a training session in Lomé on 30 July 2026, with the support of EGENT TOGO, to build the capacity of media professionals.
According to Hector Nammangue, president of ATJ2E, a study of 7,798 media items across five African countries reveals that less than 1 percent of publications are devoted to renewable energy. This finding is a wake-up call for the profession.
“Journalists play a vital role in informing, raising awareness and guiding citizens towards the energy transition” he emphasised.
The training enabled around thirty participants from online and print media, radio and the web to learn how to craft stories that place people at the heart of the news, with a view to encouraging environmentally responsible behaviour.
ATJ2E believes that better-equipped media organisations will play a greater role in accelerating the energy transition in Togo.
